A trophy can represent real effort, teamwork, and a moment worth celebrating. Yet visit a garage sale and you may find once-prized awards selling for pennies. Some achievements become memories. The character a teenager develops goes with them into every season of life.
That is why we want student ministry to be both deeply enjoyable and deeply meaningful. Dinner, games, friendships, and retreats create room for laughter and connection. Alongside those experiences, students can build habits that help them follow Jesus, make wise choices, and use their gifts to serve others.
What do we mean by a teen’s “superpowers”?
Not being extraordinary at everything. We mean noticing the real gifts God has already placed in them: encouraging a friend, welcoming someone new, creating something useful, learning technology, or leading by serving.
Our students are not just the church of tomorrow. They are part of the church today. Caring adults help them recognize that they are loved by Christ, have something to offer, and can make a difference now.
When and where do students meet?
- Wednesday nights, 6:30 PM at The Heights: Students in grades 6–12 gather for community-group Bible study, practical training, dinner, games, and time with friends. Wednesday student ministry meets at The Heights campus.
- Sunday mornings, 10:30 AM at both campuses: Students meet briefly to pray and receive serving assignments for the time before and during the 11:00 AM worship gathering.
- Monthly in the community: Students participate in opportunities to serve people in Tampa neighborhoods.

How does faith become part of everyday life?
Weekly discipleship includes Bible application, Scripture memory, and learning to spend personal time with God each day. We want teens to develop wisdom, recognize foolish choices, and have the courage to stand for what is right—even when friends choose differently.
During our fall discipleship program, students can earn fun points for serving others, daily Bible study, memorizing Scripture, and inviting friends to church or youth events. We are encouraging habits that can outlast the program itself.
Learning becomes practical on Sundays. Students serve in the café, greeting, hospitality, and video and technology teams. They gain experience showing up, working with others, and taking responsibility alongside experienced leaders.
Who leads students, and how do parents stay connected?
Our adult student-ministry leaders are background checked. Each leader goes through our three-week Surrendered Worshiper Training, receives mentoring from another leader, and shadows a student-ministry leader.
Student leaders message parents regularly with updates about what students are learning and upcoming opportunities to serve. We want parents to have a real connection with the adults encouraging their teenagers.
Is there room for fun?
Absolutely. Along with Wednesday-night dinner and games, our student ministry includes winter mountain retreats, summer student camp, and fun events throughout the year. Contact our team for upcoming dates, registration, and trip details.
Those shared experiences are about more than filling a calendar. They give teenagers time with friends and adults who value them, encourage them, and help them see the possibilities in a purposeful life.
What do we hope students take with them?
Friendships. Memories. A deeper understanding of God’s Word. Skills they can use to help others. And a growing ability to make wise choices before those choices carry the responsibilities of adulthood.
We cannot make every decision for a teenager. We can walk beside them, give them meaningful opportunities to practice, and help them build a foundation for a life that matters.
